Could you share with me the tale of how Keith came into your family? Well, it all began back in 2013 when my daughter and I were lending a hand at a local cat rescue center. One day, we stumbled upon a frail kitten that was suffering from both cat flu and gastrointestinal issues. Despite receiving medical attention for a month, the kitten’s health failed to improve. The kitten started to follow my daughter around and even climbed onto her shoulders, building a special bond between them. Fretful of the kitten’s well-being, I decided to bring him home, but had to separate him from my other cats due to his infectious illness. I took him to the vet for further examinations without my daughter’s knowledge. The following day, which also happened to be my daughter Charlie’s tenth birthday, we gave her a surprise by bringing home the six-month-old kitten from the veterinarian. She initially called him Spartacus because she believed he was a brave warrior, but eventually decided to rename him Keith after the comedian Keith Lemon because of his playful and humorous personality.
I’ve been noticing that Keith has been shedding some pounds lately, and it’s piqued my interest on how he managed to do so. Keith has always had a history of struggling with his weight, even during his younger years. At the age of one, he was already tipping the scales at 5.5kg, which led to a special diet prescribed by the vet. However, controlling his food intake was always a challenge since Keith had an insatiable appetite that often left him feeling stressed and sick. To make matters worse, Keith had a habit of scavenging for food outside, which only added to his health issues. Despite our attempts to put him on a special feeder and moving him indoors, his weight continued to increase, and we were at a loss as to why. We even considered expensive tests like an MRI to check for pituitary gland issues but ultimately decided against it since it wouldn’t change much. Our focus now is to prevent Keith from gaining more weight. He has a knack for stealing food, so we’re currently exploring different methods to regulate his feeding and slow down his eating. Despite his weight struggles, Keith remains a lively and active cat, which is impressive for a feline of his size.
