For a span of eight years, a dog resided in a run-down doghouse located in her family’s backyard. Then one day, it seemed as though her situation had taken a turn for the worse.
Pamela found herself abandoned as her family was forced to leave their house due to eviction.
Do you know what a dog looks like when their heart is shattered? Janine Guido, the creator of Speranza Animal Rescue located in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, shared a picture on the rescue’s Facebook page recently. The image shows Pamela staring sadly out of the small house she was soon going to leave behind. “This is her home. It’s been her world for the past eight years.”
Guido had come to the rescue after hearing from a local real estate agent that a dog was in need of a home. When the man who was being evicted showed up, he quickly loaded Pamela into Guido’s car and hurried back to collect his belongings.
Pamela seemed scared by the sudden turn of events, cowering in her crate with her tail tucked securely under her and emitting soft growls. Guido observed that while there were no physical wounds on her, the mental scars ran deep and were the hardest to heal.
Having experience with rehabilitating traumatized dogs, Guido knew that all Pamela needed was love, warmth, and time. She also took the dog to see a vet for the lesions on her body caused by living outside in the dirt.
Seeing Pamela tremble in fear just from her voice broke Guido’s heart, but within days, the dog was showing affection by kissing Guido on the lips. Through gentle walks and care, Pamela began to see the positive changes in her life and gradually warmed up to her new circumstances.
Guido shared on Twitter about his morning walk where his companion stayed close to him, showing affection by wrapping her legs around his waist and kissing his face. He expressed that these moments are precious and make life worth living. While Pamela has shown improvement, it is important to give her time to feel comfortable before making any big changes.
Guido informed The Dodo that they will conduct a detailed assessment of her preferences and stay by her side until they have a good grasp of what she enjoys and dislikes. Despite this, they remain optimistic that she will soon be prepared to join a loving family.
